The Master's Message

Master Maurice Marty

My Brother Knights, Sir Knights and Families

At this time of the year, we are looking forward to the celebration of the birth of Our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, in
Bethlehem. It signals a new beginning, of the church year, the calendar year, and the solar year. Just as the birth of the
Christ child was the beginning of a new era in God’s plan for the world, so is the celebration of HIS birth a time of new
beginning and new hope for us as we make plans and resolutions and set goals for the upcoming year.

We celebrate Christ’s birth at the time of the winter solstice, not to comply with past pagan practices as some would
have us believe, but because HE was the light coming into the world, just as the returning of the sun to the northern
hemisphere is bringing more light into our days. May we pray that HIS light enters our minds and hearts, that we may
see clearly HIS intentions for us, and how we may help to make HIS world a better place. We must approach this
glorious season with eyes, hearts and minds wide open to HIS guiding light, and be prepared to accept that light
willingly and to take action on HIS inspirations.

Every year at this time the media makes a big deal about the political correctness of the use of the word "Christmas"
when referring to this time of year. The commotion is here again this year but it seems to me that the public is
becoming fed up with the whole debate. The holiday is CHRISTMAS, always has been, always will be, so call it
CHRISTMAS. That does not stop other cultures from celebrating their various holidays during the winter and calling it by
it’s appropriate name.

My wife, Jeanne, and I wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy and Healthy New Year, and may HIS light
shine on each one of you.

Fraternally,
Maurice Marty, Master
